We have been appointed advise the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) on its national portfolio which, combined with its subsidiary property company, comprises a 2,900 hectare (7,150 acre) estate valued at c£500m.
A diverse and nationwide portfolio
The estate includes 19 Nuclear Licensed Sites and various non-nuclear assets such as farms, a railway and port facility, a hotel, housing, and offices which together accommodate the NDA, its operating partners and more than 160 tenants.
The diverse portfolio ranges from Dounreay at the northern tip of Scotland down to Dungeness A in the south and takes in iconic nuclear sites such as Sellafield and Sizewell A.
Environment, safety and value for money are key concerns
The NDA is a non-departmental public body established in 2005 to clean up and decommission the UK’s first generation of nuclear facilities, including the safe management of radioactive waste and addressing the risks associated with nuclear hazards – something that is topical following the tragic earthquake in Japan.
Therefore the ability to deliver excellent environmental stewardship and safety management is key. Also important to the NDA is meeting the government targets for cost reduction and generally driving value for money and performance for the tax payer.
An excellent fit between NDA and Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH)
Prior to our appointment, the estate was managed by the in house team heavily supported by DixonWebb who had an involvement with the nuclear sector going back 35 years. However, NDA felt that there was a particularly good fit between the footprint of NDA and LSH and that our skill set and corporate experience made us an ideal partner going forwards.

Providing a full range of property services
The contract, awarded through the OGC framework, includes rating, property management, transactional, and professional services for a 2+1 year term. The contract will be managed by our Corporate team in Manchester and supported by its London, Bristol, and regional offices, together with sub-consultant Carter Jonas who will deliver specialist agricultural services.
