Rating appeal saves Northamptonshire County Council over £80,000

Find out more

Kingsbrook School suffered from a number of disadvantages which included inadequate access for disabled staff and pupils. As rating advisers, we felt that the schools rateable value did not reflect this and we logged an appeal on Northamptonshire County Council’s behalf.

Appeal launched for review of rating value

Our appeal was upheld by the valuations tribunal, but we still believed it did not fully appreciate the school’s shortcomings and therefore appealed to the lands tribunal.

This appeal resulted in the Valuation Office conceding that severe disability access issues do warrant rating allowances.

Substantial costs savings generated for Kingsbrook School

The school’s rateable value was subsequently revised to £134,000. Our successful appeal saved Northamptonshire County Council in excess of £80,000 over a five year period.
