BBC’s Manchester HQ put on the market

Find out more

Following BBC’s decision to relocate to Media City at Salford Quays, we have announced recommendations for the long-term potential of the 5.4 acre site.

Providing disposal advice

For the past two years, we have advised the BBC on the development options for the site. Once vacated, the site will be available for redevelopment in line with the framework produced in conjunction with the adjoining landowners, or refurbishment of the existing buildings. The site is suitable for a number of uses, including offices, hotels, retail, leisure, and residential accommodation, student housing, and car parking.

Strategic development site in prime city centre location

Peter Skelton, Strategic Development Director in our Manchester office, said: “This is a significant step forward in the redevelopment of one of the most important large-scale, strategic development sites in the city centre.”

“The recent downward shift in the property market has had a negative impact on development projects, with few sites of this magnitude - being released for sale. While the redevelopment of the site is still some way off, it is vital for Manchester’s future prosperity that we get it right”.

Regeneration will impact wider community

Peter concluded: “Having already identified the anticipated demand in respect of employment, housing and infrastructure, the sale represents a unique opportunity for an accomplished developer. By identifying and delivering a blend of uses that visitors, residents, local businesses and the Council can be proud of, the developer can add significant value to the overall regeneration of the city.”

Any future redevelopment would not be completed until 2013/2014
