The BBC will move from its current base in Llandaff to the 150,000 sq ft new broadcast centre on the Capital Square site, to be developed by Rightacres Property. The site is located north of Cardiff Central station and currently consists of a bus station and two empty office blocks.

Transforming Wales' capital city

Rhodri Talfan Davies, director of BBC Wales, said: "The plans for Capital Square don’t just make excellent financial sense, they are groundbreaking too. They provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get much closer to our audiences, to help transform part of our capital city, and to work with a wide range of partners to strengthen Wales’ reputation as a world-class creative community."

A catalyst for a larger regeneration scheme

Lee Mogridge, Regional Director of Wales at LSH, commented: "We are delighted with the BBC’s decision to relocate to Capital Square, as it will provide a first class facility for the future. The wider city centre development will act as a catalyst for a much larger regeneration scheme, which will economically benefit the city and the whole of Wales, putting Cardiff on the map as a commercial centre of choice, attracting further inward investment."

Development will provide much-needed office stock

Steve Matheson, Director and Head of LSH’s Cardiff Office Agency, said: "The redevelopment of Capital Square will provide Cardiff with much needed office stock. With the electrification of the railway scheduled for completion in 2017, journey times to London will be reduced by 20 minutes, and the attraction of Cardiff to new occupiers will be substantially enhanced. The BBC’s decision to choose Capital Square as the location of its new broadcasting house can only be a positive message for the future of the city."
