Our Building Consultancy team is celebrating after the fit-out of the Driving Standard Agency’s (DSA’s) new HQ won the British Council for Offices’ ‘Fit-out of Workplace’ award for the Midlands and East Anglia region.

Following the search and acquisition of the premises, we conducted feasibility studies to ensure that the final decision perfectly suited the DSA’s requirements.

£4.5 million fit-out of The Axis in Nottingham

We went on to Project Manage and deliver Contract Administration for the £4.5 million fit-out of The Axis.

The project comprised 55,000 sq ft of office space, including a ground floor reception and office floors on levels three and four. The building, a former Co-op department store, has been gutted and developed into a six storey mixed-use building including apartments, shops, restaurants, casino and offices.

Collaborative working during 22 month project

We worked closely with the client representatives to put together a full design team and client working group. Grant Thorp Ltd, Warwick-based interior and workplace design consultants, worked with architects Marchini Curran Associates, Waterman Building Services alongside our team on the 22-month project to strip and fit-out the offices for the DSA.

Prestigious award recognises quality of end result

Darron Owen, Director in our Building Consultancy team, commented: “To have won such a prestigious award from the British Council of Offices is a credit to all involved in this project. The fit-out was an enormous challenge architecturally and the quality of the end result is acknowledged by award wins such as this.”

Philip Quiggin, Director in our Nottingham-based Office Agency team, added: “Our knowledge of the local and regional market allowed our Office Agency teams to conduct a thorough search for suitable properties, both on and off the market. The finished result at The Axis is the perfect fit for the client’s operational needs.”

Further accolades for the development

The Axis also won the ‘mixed use development of the year’ award by Property Week at the Midlands Property Awards 2007, as well as Mixology North’s ‘Public Sector Interior Project of the Year’ award. The scheme will go forward to the British Council for Offices’ national awards in October.
