Graduate Scheme
At LSH, we dare to do things differently. We may have been formed in 1773 but there is nothing old fashioned about us.
We look for dynamic, collaborative and curious individuals who have ideas aplenty and are not afraid to share them. Academic records are important, but not as critical as people skills, the desire to learn and to challenge the status quo.
Whether you’re interested in our Graduate Scheme, a Placement Year or just the chance to gain some vital work experience, allow this website to guide you through.
WHAT’S SO GRAD ABOUT US?
We’re proud of our market leading training and development record, and rightly so. On average, we currently seat around 20 new grads per year across all pathways, and our APC pass rate is currently at 90% – so well above the industry benchmark.
The catalyst for our success is the in-depth, tailored, and structured training programme we provide from the off. In our larger offices this a rotation system so you will spend time in different teams to gain real hands-on practical work experience and high level exposure to senior personnel and clients. You’ll get all the support you could possibly need along the way too. This will arm you with all the best tools and skills to complete your Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and qualify as a Chartered Surveyor with RICS.

APPLY
IMPORTANT: There will be a graduate scheme starting in September 2021 however we will not be running the usual Autumn/Winter recruitment campaign this year (2020). We anticipate recruitment for our September 2021 intake will place later in 2021 on an ad-hoc basis. If you are interested in applying for a role please send your CV and cover letter (stating any office location preferences) using the ‘email me’ link under my details. Our aim is to shortlist and recruit from a pool of CVs gathered between now and then. Many thanks, Mark.
CAN I APPLY?
Although our typical applicants study RICS accredited undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in Real Estate or Building Surveying, we welcome students from ANY degree discipline who can demonstrate a genuine desire to begin a career as a surveyor.
NON-COGNATES
If you wish to apply to our scheme but do not already have a RICS accredited degree, you will (if successful) be required to undertake a part-time RICS accredited postgraduate conversion degree in Real Estate.
This is usually fully-sponsored and takes 2 years to finish. This must be completed before you can sit your APC so non-cognates typically take 2.5 years to qualify.
We do not accept non-cognate graduates for Building Surveyor vacancies.
What next?
Shortlisting: Once the application window has closed on the 30th November, all applications are reviewed and a shortlist compiled. At this stage all applicants will receive an email to advise if they have been successful or not.
First interviews: Interviews typically take place in early-mid January at the office you have selected. Typically our interviews take 60-75 mins and include competency questions and a short verbal technical assessment. If successful at first interview you will be invited to attend an assessment centre (London only) OR a second interview.
Assessment centres: Assessment centres are held in our London office usually towards the end of January. They typically last for 2.5 hours and include an individual presentation, group task and individual written exercise. Shortly after, final selections will be made and successful applicants will be notified by phone.
LSH are part of the Property Training Forum Charter.
CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
Although most of our graduate recruitment takes place in the autumn cycle, occasionally we have some ‘immediate start’ opportunities at this level. To search for current entry-level opportunities please visit our vacancy search page on our careers portal.

Heard this elsewhere before, well think again! At LSH we genuinely want everyone to think beyond the obvious, to have the freedom to make a real difference, and not to follow onerous and bureaucratic tick box procedures. We want to wow our clients, and deliver results that go above and beyond expectations. The only way to do this is to think laterally, and overcome challenges with new and fresh solutions.
As a result, our culture is positively charged. All staff are empowered to drive their own careers with autonomy. That doesn’t mean you are alone and left to your own devices. Far from it! We have a large support network for you to lean on for expert advice and guidance. We are a friendly, diverse and down-to-earth bunch from a wide range of different backgrounds who enjoy helping each other out.

A note from our CEO
No other commercial property business is quite like us.
We look further then your qualifications and who you may, or may not, know. We are constantly evolving, starring into the future, and developing new areas of our business all the time. After all, buildings may be static but the industry never stands still.
Technology is the heartbeat of such change. From blockchain to bitcoin and all proptech in between we continue to stride forward with great professionals in situ to solve the biggest property challenges of our time.
This is why we seek a new breed of property professional. Those individuals with creativity, wit, a spark or two of ingenuity and, of course, drive. There really is no ideal background or profile – it’s all about relationship skills, communication and a thirst for new experiences.
