Acting on behalf of Fusion Students, we provided evidence in an appeal against Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s decision to refuse both advertising and listed building consent. The works follow a multi-million pound refit which took place in 2019.

Key issues surrounding the appeal related to the preservation of the grade II listed heritage asset, and its features of significance, as well as the potential impact on the amenity of the area.

We provided significant detail in support of the appeal and successfully demonstrated that the proposed works would, in fact, preserve the significance of the listed building and its features. The inspector also noted that the proposal would not harm the amenity of the area.

Both appeals were successfully overturned and granted consent.

Tom Mills, Senior Planner at LSH commented:

“Demonstrating that a set of works would preserve a heritage asset’s significance is no easy feat; not least of all when the works relate to advertising. We are proud to have gone the extra mile in demonstrating, to the Inspector, that the works were both sympathetic and necessary. This is a great result for our client and this outstanding, grade II listed, 1920’s-styled hotel.”
