Mike Slade inspires ‘next generation’ at LSH breakfast
Speaking at the ‘Young Surveyors (YS) – the Next Generation’ breakfast seminar hosted by Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) on 16 February, Mike Slade, CEO of Helical Bar gave his views on the property industry and prospects for the coming months.
Delivering an important message in his usual humorous and inspiring style, Slade urged the young surveyors in the room to stick with the profession, despite disheartening market pressures. His key message was: "Don’t lose patience, and trust and reputation is everything."
On the short to medium term outlook, Slade was cautious. He said: "It’s a cyclical industry, we’ve been here before and will be here again.
"We need to be careful of overanalysing the market and tempting a self fulfilling prophecy. There are good opportunities out there, we just need to identify these when they arise. The main thing we need to be aware of is occupier demand – when that returns, so will the market….it’s not happening yet, I give it a year before we see a rise."
